Pygmy Palm Propagation
The Pygmy Palm is propagated by seeds and dividing offsets (divisions) from the plant.
The seeds germinate quickly and easily. It occurs usually within six weeks to tree months.
You can propagate the Pygmy palm by seeds at home. It would take about 3 months to sprout. Best results come from ripe seeds from ripe fruits. First, clean the seeds from any flesh or hair. Immerse the seeds in water for 6-8 days at room temperature. The seeds have very hard and tough “coats” and soaking will soft them. Change water daily. You can use deep seed pans to plant the seeds. Use the soil with loam, sand and peat moss. You can mix the soil with perlite. The soil should be watered well. It should retain moisture but not become soggy. Temperature must be about 68F at night and 86F during the day. Germination depends on combination of quality of seeds, temperature and moisture. When seedling sprout, pot them in pots.
You can also propogate Phoenix Roebelenii by offsets. The best time to do that is in spring or summer. Separate divisions from the parent plant and pot the rooted offsets. Be very careful with roots, don’t cut them. Don’t water the the stems only the soil. Keep new separated divisions shaded and well-watered until they are established.
